Brief

A small Melbourne based Information & Communication Technology firm, required brand new identity and stationery items. Sapia is an engineering and Technical Management company that provides a range of products and services to businesses. Being a recently launched company [2009], there were no existing design constraints leaving me with creative control of the concept.

My aim for this project was to use a simple colour palette to maximize Sapia’s user-friendly approach to potential clients. Primarily, I chose blue and grey that could be alternated throughout all collateral and is also effective when combined. I have repeated the icon on the reverse of all the stationery to reinforce the brand.

The client was very pleased with the final outcome of all aspects of the brand. He was especially satisfied with the clever use of keyboard character symbolism that he felt was relevant to Sapia’s image and background.

Strategy

The identity icon was conceptualised using familiar keyboard character symbols that are frequently used and viewed in today’s society. A ‘colon’ and two ‘forward slash’ keyboard characters were ideal given the company’s platform. Helvetica font was chosen for Sapia’s identity typeface, as it is simple, clear and professional. The secondary font ‘courier’ was introduced throughout all collateral to signify the importance of Sapia’s line
of work involving networking and coding.
