Brief
Originally named Brice Avenue Medical Centre, Mooroolbark Medical Centre was looking for a complete rebrand. The brief entailed a fresh new identity, stationery and an internal and external wayfinding system.
The client required the external signage to entice new patients from the local community as well as ensuring that existing patients from the previous centre continued their care at the new facility. We also had to provide directional assistance for the traffic both entering and exiting the centre.
Internally the client requested a simple, clear wayfinding system to direct patients to different areas of the facility.
The finished design including all aspects of the brief met and exceeded the client’s expectations. They felt the identity and printed stationery looked clean and appropriately represented their company. The wayfinding system was effective in directing patients internally and externally to various areas of the facility.
Strategy
The basic shape of a capsule provided the inspiration for the identity. Using the repeated oblong shape, I constructed a symbol that was balanced and effective. The colour palette was chosen with careful consideration to the background colours of both the stationery [white] and the external signage [charcoal]. The colours had to be striking yet consistent when applying the graphic to different materials. The overlapped shapes also created new shades that added more depth to the overall identity.
The wayfinding system was developed to be user friendly, clear and directional. The typeface selected was used throughout the entire brand and it was important for it to be legible. It also compliments the logo.
